Ghostwriting Groupie:Help Wanted: all passion, no pay

Soooooooooo, needle and thread, I have an idea. I don't know if it's a good idea but it's an idea.

Remember last week, when I was talking about me doing videos?  Well, I got to thinking after I wrote that. I started wondering if there were people out their that would be interested in creating videos for Enpde songs.

I know we couldn't pay anyone in much more than gratitude. But if you were someone who wanted to do something with music without running into those pesky copyright infringement things, Enpde could help. I am not sure off hand but I would say there's probably close to twenty tracks he has made available that need a corresponding video.  Some do have videos, but only three are unique. Many are just like the Dr. Niehbuhr video below. It works, but it's not very interesting.

So, we couldn't pay you but we could certainly give you the credits and the links which in this day and age are weirdly valuable. We've never really turned a profit off of this. Hell, I don't think we've covered our cost in some place BUT we have had a lot of fun and met a lot of colorful and sometimes wonderful people which solidly means a lot to me. Just something that I am kicking around in me gulliver.

What do you think?  There are three tracks currently available for free download at enpde.com that you    could play with and if you were interested in one of the other tracks I would totally hook you up with a file to work from.  If you are interested, leave a comment...or a direct message at enpde.com...or just surprise me and upload it to the Enpde channel on YouTube  (if such a crazy thing is even possible!). I dunno, maybe I am dreaming but this soo seems feasible if I could just hook in with the right people.<3GG

Ghostwriting Groupie: I Want My NPD (or why I always have a song stuck in my head)

I apologize for getting off the every Thursday track. I started working again and well, you know how that goes sometimes. Who cares about the internet when your bed has comfy pillows!

Amazingly somehow over the course of the last two weeks, Mr. Enpde has managed to finish a bunch of tracks for your listening approval. You can check them out at enpde.com. No download necessary if you listen through the Reverb playa.

You know what happens now? If you give a musician a completed track, he's gonna want a video.

This is how and why (partly) I always have tunes running through my head. First, while they are being produced I hear them. I hear every snippet, every edit, every change, every incessant editing of the same ten seconds of music. Sometimes, by the time there is a finished product, I don't even recognize it as a NEW track.

Then, there's the road test (aka an excuse to drive around town late at night with the stereo cranked.)

So, if you throw in a video. Whew! The "I Want my NPD" video, hmm, I don't remember how long it took me to do. Four or five hours, maybe longer when you factor in finding the public domain material in the first place. I think this particular piece had an actual run time closer to 30 minutes, so it had to be crunched down to five minutes and forty one seconds. Matched up, edited, cut, re-edited, re-cut, scrapped completely, start over, cut, splice, flair, flair, replay, replay, work feverishly on the same damn ten seconds because the transition is crucial, coffee, obsessive focus, dereliction of duties, cut, cut, transition, effect, voila! done.

So that my friends is why I always have a song stuck in my head. Want to give it a try? You can post your results to the Enpde channel on You Tube if you want. Strictly a love offering, for the love of music, for the love of video.

That's all for now <3GG

Ghostwriting Groupie: Collaborative versus Co-dependent

Me and Enpde, well, there is something that I have noticed about us. We spend a lot of time connected and connecting. It seems sometimes like much more than other couples. Heck, even more than some BFFs talk to each other. So, I imagine sometimes behind (other people's) closed door the word "co-dependent" gets thrown around.

I prefer collaborative. And really, it's much more fitting in many ways. Dishes, laundry, dinner, audio mixing, video production and walking the dog...we each have our strengths and weakness there and try to accommodate each other accordingly.

I can live and function perfectly well without Enpde, but why would I want to?

Take the track "The Biggest Loser" It was born from a series of seemingly never-ending wrong number calls I was receiving. I played them for him one night while we were hanging out at Spaerderum Studios. He recorded them, equalized them, started working his magic with one particular section then voila! He played the final product. I suggested the title. Then, as totally a labor of love, something to cheer him up, I tinkered around and got the video together. Well, two videos together before he got home. I didn't have to do it. He never asked me to do it. I just wanted to do it. Sometimes, I know what the mood was that caused him to produce a certain piece. Sometimes, I very strongly have my own inspiration to a piece.

Honestly, if we could make all the money we needed from Spaerbedrum, it would be a dream. Him at his console and me plopped on the futon. It would be sweet. Super sweet. Not kidding.

So, go watch the video and help fuel our collaborative, codependent rock and roll fantasy ;)

I realize that this is not Thursday, and I said Thursdays. I got a job that has irregular (aka NOT 9 to 5) hours so I am way off schedule in everything.Especially the laundry

Ghostwriting Groupie: Track One

Me and Enpde Christmas 2010
So, for the record I have just spent the last...I shouldn't even admit this...I have spent about the last four hours doing "band" stuff. The twitter, the Facebook, all the social media stuff. I enjoy it. Obviously. How else could I lose the last four hours?

I guess it's true what they say about if you go to Sam Ash on your honeymoon, you'll be writing blog content on EDM before you know it. Or something like that...

(And yes, we really did spend time at a Sam Ash during our honeymoon.)

He wants a blog I think mostly because the blog feeds into the Reverb and where ever the hell else I send it.  Plus, I have a had my own blogs and he is impressed that I can get a whopping twenty non-related people a day to read it.

I don't really know what to write for him...I am not him. I can do a lot of little stuff. It's easy to impersonate someone in social media because it isn't as intimate as actual sentences and paragraphs. If he tweets or facebooks something irreverent, that's easy for me to imitate because I put up with his shit every damn day so yeah...I can handle it. I can't write about the production aspect (something he'd like to do). I can't with any authority write about any artist. Well, I could but some where around the post about the timeless power of "High Enough" you probably wonder if Enpde wasn't some sort of Milli Vanilli set up.

Besides, doing this gives me something to do when he is working on new material. I don't mind to hang out with him but he's not a very good conversationalist when he is working. I get bored. So, here it is the first post as the Ghostwriting Groupie. I am going to aim for once a week. Thursdays I guess since it is now Thursday. Lots of fun stuff I can cover. Oooh, this is gonna be more fun than I ever had carrying the bass into gigs in heels. Woohoo!

Enig'matik Records Showcase feat. Goosebumpz, San Francisco, CA

Might as well use all these damn Facebook events for my own gain. Looking for something to do this weekend?

First of all, it's Father's Day so if you are lucky enough to have a dad that deserves something, then take care of that, and oh, say hi to your mother for me.

I have a lot of invites for the weekend but this one jumps out to me:

Friday, June 15
Enig'matik Records Showcase feat. Goosebumpz, San Francisco, CA Club 6, ridiculously cheap presale: http://www.eventbrite.com/event/3699479242  I had realized before this moment that this club is literally a block away from my wife's brother I might have tried to hit it up.

It's not that everything else was lame or anything, it's just that I can get to everything else and we always want what we can not have. Or something like that, right?

Flag Day

Today is Flag Day in the United States. Know that is? It's the day we celebrate the adoption of the stars and stripes as our flag in 1777.

EDM is not exactly known for it's patriotism, but I did happen to find this on YouTube. It's a remix of a track that was originally recorded in 1969, so if you like the Match Game theme you'll love this.
